Heat is the enemy with disc brake systems. Shimano brings cooling tech to their SM-RT900 disc rotors. The technology is Ice Technologies Freeza which gives you a sense of what it's supposed to do. It is supposed to cool the rotor so that the heat neither warps the rotor nor transfers the heat to the pads caliper frame or fluid. They achieve this in multiple ways. The braking surface of the rotor is steel. There are actually two steel surfaces sandwiching an aluminum core.
